Starting an Internet Home Business – 3 Mistakes to Avoid

Starting an online business from home is quickly becoming an attractive option. Save yourself a lot of time and money right from the start by avoiding these 3 common mistakes.

1. Creating a website without first having a clear vision.

Long before you selecting a domain name and web hosting, you need to honestly make a few decisions.

First, who is your target audience? Unless you narrow it down, it can be nearly impossible to convince anyone that they need your site. Decide if it’s for professionals, students, single parents, business owners, etc. It will likely be a combination of factors. My website for example is designed for individuals building an internet home business, and more specifically, network marketing businesses that are health-related. The audience selection is up to you, but this absolutely must be defined before going any further.

Secondly, what real value is it going to provide them? Are you giving how-to instructions? Are you providing links to helpful resources? Are you providing entertainment? What are your visitors going to find on the site and how will it help them?

Keep in mind, the average time a new visitor stays on a website is literally just a few seconds before moving on to the next site. You must define the purpose of your content, and then design your website to clearly communicate that purpose to a new visitor within 3-5 seconds! If you can convey this message quickly to the right audience, your website will be much more effective and your visitors will be more likely to stay to look at your content.

2. Enrolling in an MLM company before you have your marketing plan in place.

The world is very different now than it was in the 80′s and 90′s. It used to be as simple as sitting down and making a list of everyone you know, then going out and talking to them all about your business opportunity! These days that can still be done with some success, but unfortunately that is often the only strategy that is ever taught by up-line leaders in the network marketing industry!

But what happens if you don’t have success with the people on your list? Nothing will kill your motivation faster than running out of people to talk to!

It is absolutely essential that you have an effective plan to continually find more and more people to share your opportunity with in order to build a network marketing empire. Even more important is that you need to be able to give share that same plan with your team so that they can reproduce the same results.

Unless it can be reproduced, you will end up doing it all on your own, and that would completely defeat the purpose of network marketing wouldn’t you say?

3. Trying to learn everything before taking action.

The task of setting up an internet home business can seem like a very daunting task when you look at all of the individual components at once. When taking a step-by-step approach, it can be a very fun and surprisingly simple task.

Avoid getting stuck in the trap of “analysis paralysis.” If you allow yourself to believe that you need to know everything before you get started, you will simply never get started. Now you may be thinking, “Hey didn’t you just say to analyze before getting started?” Well yes, but that is only true for each individual step. It’s important to have a general sense of your overall goal, and to clearly think through each step before taking a step. With that being said, once you’ve learned what you need to know for each individual step, the only thing you should do next, is take that step!

If you are ready to take the next step, but instead of taking it you choose rather to analyze the following step. You are creatively avoiding the work and before you know it you haven’t accomplished anything at all!

In summary, decide who your business/website is for, create content that is both instantly attractive and useful to the target audience, and then always take action on the next immediate step before doing anything else.

To your success!
